FHE - Drinking and Driving

We had our FHE (Family Home Evening) lesson last night and it was Nick's turn. We asked that he do it on Drinking and Driving. We obtained several statistics and I also looked up some victims and pictures of the crashes. Cesar felt a strong urge to make sure that the kids understand how serious drinking and driving is. As we were talking about it, we didn't realize how many we've either witnessed already or have seen someone we know go through it. One of Nathan's friends from school actually lost some of his family members on Memorial Day a few years back. Did you know that Memorial Day is actually one of the most dangerous holidays of the year? What about that Texas is the state with the highest fatalities from drinking and driving? It's crazy to find out the facts about it all. Here is a website you can check out if you'd like to: http://www.alcoholalert.com/drunk-driving-statistics.html

As we were wrapping up our lesson, I told the kids that we wanted them to really know how serious this is because this is one of the biggest trials of peer pressure that they will go through in their life with their friends. It's not a question of "IF" my friends ask me to drink; it's a question of when and where it will happen, because it will happen.
We asked them to put in their mind right now that they will not drink and drive; let alone drink at all. I think we had a pretty good lesson and hope that this will stay with them when the time comes when they are put in that position to decide. All we can do is teach our children and pray that they make the right choice.
